These policies adhere to the rules and regulations of the NC Massage and Bodywork Practice Act.
What to Expect
For your first appointment, you will fill out a health history and consent form. We will discuss your goals for each session and develop a plan to meet your needs. Sessions (time spent on the table) last for 30-120 minutes. I highly encourage clients to voice their needs as they arise in the massage setting, whether that is for deeper or lighter pressure, different draping, a change in temperature, a blanket, or to stop the session entirely.
Appointments and Cancellations
Appointments may occasionally be made same-day, though several days to several weeks in advance is encouraged. Please make any cancellations 24 hours prior to your scheduled session. If a session is canceled less than 24 hours in advance, or in the case of a missed appointment, I assess a $30 fee. (Emergencies and sudden illness are, of course, excluded.) Clients who make excessive cancellations on short notice will not be allowed future appointments.
I currently accept cash, check, and credit card via Google Checkout. Payment is due in full at the end of each session. New appointments may be scheduled when the client is up to date.
Appointments start and end on time. I cannot see clients earlier than our scheduled time, and late clients will still be charged for the whole session.
Clothing and Draping
Clients have differing levels of comfort with disrobing, and you should take off only what you are comfortable with removing, though in most cases optimal work is done through the fewest layers of cloth. You will remain draped with a sheet during the session, and only the area being worked on will be exposed. Blankets and a table heater are available for warmth if desired.
For work to the gluteal, chest, and abdominal region, the draping may be rearranged to allow greater accessibility. Modesty is maintained at all times. Please let me know if you are uncomfortable with massage to any of these regions.
I take notes during sessions. My clients’ personal information is not shared with outside parties. According to legal requirements, records are retained for four years after your last appointment.
My massages are strictly therapeutic. If a client behaves in a sexual manner at any time before, during, or after the massage, the session will be terminated if one is in progress, full payment expected, and the client will be barred from all future appointments.
Please let me know if you have any questions or complaints about your session. I strive to run a fair practice that supports the health of my clients. I’m very willing to listen to any difficulties you may be having post-session and try to find a workable solution. If you have a very serious complaint about me or another therapist, please contact the NC Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy.
This text appears at the bottom of your health history form.
“I understand that massage therapy is not a substitute for medical treatment or medications, and that it is recommended that I concurrently work with my Primary Caregiver for any condition I may have. I am aware that the massage therapist does not diagnose illness or disease.
“Because massage must not be performed under certain circumstances, I have made the therapist aware of my existing medical conditions. It is my responsibility to keep the massage therapist updated on my medical history. The information I have provided is true and complete to the best of my knowledge.
“If I experience any pain or discomfort during the session, I will immediately communicate it to the therapist so the treatment can be adjusted. If I have any questions about the therapy, I know that I am free to ask, and that the therapist will happily answer.
“I have read a copy of the therapist’s policies; I understand them and agree to abide by them.”
